In many domestic breeds, the threshold for aggression is lower than in wolves, making these de-escalation signals more frequent. Not all dogs can use all signals. Breeds that have undergone significant morphological changes from their wolf ancestors may lack the physical capacity to display certain visual cues. For example, a brachycephalic breed might not be able to show the same degree of eye softening or muzzle elongation as a sighthound.
